Black Bean Solar Panel is a 5 x 5’ woven structure of three black bean varieties. Originally designed as a way to reuse excess beans from my black bean ink-making process. Black Bean Solar Panel became a way to explore the grid system that solar panels need to create efficiency.
A bean, so small in form, yet is powerful and continuously on the defense to become a further iteration of itself. Beans and nano materials have been a way to explore scale, and ultimately tech by facilitating power into small spaces. The creation of Black Bean Solar Panel has become a community meditation practice, as participants have found calmness in the practice of making a row of “string beans”

The Black Bean bin was designed for viewers to touch and explore the beans. The beans ended up spilling into the soil and became a way to sow new beans.
